Meet Duane Smith
Duane has been involved in SCCA racing for more than 20 years. Racing in F/V, F/F, F5000, F/A, GT1, GT2, GT3, GT4, S2000, Trans Am, IMSA Champion Spark Plug Challenge, IMSA GTO, Pro S2000, Pro F/A, and Pro Trans Am. Duane was also on the Milwaukee Region Board of Directors as well as a driving instructor for SCCA, eventually becoming chief instructor for Road America.
Just to get an idea of the reach that Duane has, he has ran SCCA Nationals and Pro races at the following tracks: Road America, Brainerd Int., Indianapolis Raceway Park, Mid-Ohio, Road Atlanta, Texas World, Riverside, Sears Point, Blackhawk, St. Louis International, Nelson Ledges, Kansas City GP, St. Petersburg GP, Sebring, Watkins Glen, Lime Rock, Wisconsin State Fair Park. In case you weren't counting that's 17 tracks. Duane has also had a spotlight on MOTORTREND for his amazing builds, including the Min-Cooper. In his spare time while racing, he found time to be a professional corporate pilot and have type ratings in several different jet aircraft, flying for a number of Fortune 500 corporations.
Today Duane lives here in NWA enjoying "retirement" and either restoring ultra rare factory lightweight race cars to engineering how to put small block Chevy engines into Mini-coopers and other vehicles.
Recently Duane was a guest instructor at our Cruising the Ozark Private Track Day with Randy Pobst.
So, if you see an blue Mini-Cooper that doesn't sound like itself, check it out and say hi to Diane.
